Wine has been produced in Quinta do Carmo, for over 130 years, but it was at the start of the new millennium that Júlio Bastos starts this new project, Dona Maria wines.

Situated about 1Km from the Alentejo city of Estremoz this palace-like 18th century house has become a landmark, not only for its beauty but also for its history and the quality of the wine produced there.

Wine has been produced in Quinta do Carmo, for over 130 years, but it was at the start of the new millennium that Júlio Bastos starts this new project, Dona Maria wines.

The ancient estate winery was restored and extended, equipped with the best and most modern technology, although keeping the famous “lagares” where selected grapes are vinified using the traditional foot treading method. Nowadays, the winery produces 260.000 bottles, but the final objective will be a total production of 500.000 bottles per year, of top quality wines.
